309L is a high-alloyed 23 Cr 13 Ni wire primarily intended for surfacing low alloyed steels and dissimilar welding between stainless and mild steel. 309L has a composition, that under normal welding conditions, will ensure a crack resistant weld metal with a ferrite content of min. 3%. 309L may also be used for welding some high temperature steels. 309L can also be supplied with a higher Si-content (0.85 %), which provides a better fluidity and surface appearance. The chemical composition, when surfacing, is equivalent to that of ASTM 304 from the first run offering a ductile and crack resistant weldment.
